This was our first home which garnered a cover in the Accent section with two follow-up pages of information dedicated to introducing the staging concept to Palm Beach County. Unfortunately, due to the date of its publication, two day before the 9/11 tragedies, the article was soon forgotten as the nation mourned.
Patricia Content and Wayne Gattilia have started a staging business called Staging in Palm Beach County. [They] see the service as a smart selling tool for builders, realtors, and propective Sellers.
Content feels that vacant homes can be better presented with furnishings. "Staging minimizes any flaws that are glaring in vacant homes. Staging the space keeps the buyers in the home looking longer, and helps them form an emotional bond with the property." In addition to working with realtors and home owners preparing to sell their property, Stagin galso works with builders in creating model homes, and provide move-in services for new home owners.
Recently, Content and Gattilia were hired by a real estate agent to stage a three-bedroom, two-bathroom house in the $225,000 range. It had been sitting on the market for six months because the seller wouldn't accept any of the offers. It was obvious to the two decorators that the family had outgrown the place. How could they tell? For starters, the husband had his at-home office in the master bedroom. "When you're going to sell a house, each room should have one function," says Gattilia. He and Content converted one of the two children's bedrooms into dad's home office. Then they turned the other kid's bedroom into a bedroom for two. The house sold in two weeks for $15,000 more than any of the previous offers.
